Man treated for spinal injuries after falling down Adelaide mine shaft

  • A 22-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital after falling down a mine shaft

A 22-year-old man is currently being treated at the hospital after falling down six metres down a mine shaft in an outback town.

Daniel Cotter was searching for opals in Coober Pedy, Adelaide on Friday when he fell down the 15-metre deep mine. 

Mr Cotter’s cousin raised the alarm at 11:45pm yesterday, 9 News reported.

Local state emergency services and fire crew were immediately called in for the rescue operation.

Soon after, Mr Cotter was airlifted out of the mine shaft and transported to Coober Pedy hospital, where he was treated for an ankle injury. 

Mr Cotter was later transferred to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for further examination of a suspected leg fracture and spinal injury.
