A man has turned a $20 note into $210,000 after correctly guessing the amount of first half goals in eight separate soccer matches.
The 36-year-old man, from New Zealand, placed the bet on matches over a three-week period across the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and the Copa del Ray.
His incredible multi was offering odds of 10,500 to one.
The man’s huge win surpasses Australian TAB’s record of a $50 multi that returned $203,702 across 13 European soccer matches.
The 36-year-old man turned $20 into $210,000 after winning an eight-leg multi. His final bet was for Chelsea and Tottenham (pictured) to be scoreless at half time
Tab offered the man a chance to cash out before the final games for $16,000, and once again in the first half of the matches but he was determined to keep going.
‘I didn’t want to cash it out – I thought I would try my luck,’ he told the NZ Herald.
The man had a nerve-wracking 45 minutes while watching the final two games at the same time across two screens – requiring both to be 0-0 draws in the first half.
Premier League heavyweights Tottenham and Chelsea were both scoreless at half time and Real Madrid and Barcelona both failed to find the net, securing his win.
The man watched the final two games simultaneously to complete his eight-game gambling streak
‘There were a lot of “almost” goals, heaps, but they didn’t go in,’ the man said.
The man and his partner said they were incredible excited at the winnings and needed the money at the time.
‘We plan to pay off some bills and other things and then probably go on a holiday, maybe to Bangkok or Japan. And eat a lot of KFC!’ He said.
