Man United and Chelsea ‘to hold further talks Mason Mount talks this week’… as clubs remain apart on their valuation of the £65m-rated England star – with the Red Devils only willing to pay £55m
Manchester United will reportedly hold further talks with Chelsea over Mason Mount as they look to break the deadlock and clinch a deal for the England star.
United have tabled a £55million bid for the 24-year-old, who has a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and is not expected to sign a new deal.
Negotiations have reached an impasse as United are unwilling to go higher than that figure, while Chelsea are demanding an offer totalling £65m.
According to The Telegraph, United and Chelsea chiefs will meet to discuss a potential deal this week with a view to finding common ground.
Both clubs will be keen for an agreement to be struck, with Mount one of Erik ten Hag’s top targets this summer and Chelsea keen to raise funds.
Mason Mount has been the subject of three bids from Man United but Chelsea are holding firm
United boss Erik ten Hag is hoping to secure a deal to sign Mount, 24, for around £55million
United believe their valuation of Mount is fair, given his contractual situation and the fact the midfielder is keen to move to Old Trafford.
However, Chelsea have indicated they will only accept an offer of £58m plus another £7m in add-ons.
United’s latest offer, comprised of a £50million guaranteed payment plus £5m in add-ons, was received by Chelsea on Friday afternoon.
That was turned down late on Friday night. Chelsea instantly countered with a £58million plus £7million deal, leaving the ball back in United’s court.
Old Trafford chiefs are very reluctant to pay any more for Mount, with indications on Friday afternoon that this would be their final offer.
It is not yet clear whether the talks will be face-to-face or virtual, but Mail Sport reported last week that Chelsea have offered to hold in-person discussions.
It remains to be seen whether United are prepared to meet Chelsea officials in person to find a resolution.
Importantly, however, while there is not a will to pay any more for Mount, United maybe willing to negotiate on the finer details and structure of the deal.
United could turn to Moises Caicedo, who is valued at £80million by Brighton, if their Mount pursuit fails
The Old Trafford club, who have around £120m to spend this summer plus any money they make from sales, have indicated they will turn their attention to Brighton’s Moises Caicedo due to the impasse regarding Mount.
The Ecuador international is a different style of player and would cost considerably more than 24-year-old Mount with Brighton looking for £80m plus.
Chelsea had a £60m bid for Caicedo rejected early this month and have been considered favourites to finally land the 21-year-old when talks resume this week.
