Man United: David de Gea fails to save a penalty against Brighton despite cheat sheet

‘He had an open book test and still failed the exam’: Man United fans are stunned after David de Gea is seen reading a cheat sheet before their penalty shootout win over Brighton – but still didn’t save a single spot kick!

  • But the Spaniard failed to save a single penalty after doing his research
  • Man United still managed to win 7-6 on penalties to reach the FA Cup final

Manchester United fans were left baffled by David de Gea after the goalkeeper was seen reading a set of notes before their penalty shootout win over Brighton – but still failed to make a single save.

The Red Devils were made to work for their spot in the FA Cup final against the Seagulls as both sides could not be separated after 120 minutes, with Roberto de Zerbi’s men missing a host of chances to score at Wembley.

And at the end of regulation time it was a chance for De Gea to step up and be a hero – with the 32-year-old studying what looked like a cheat sheet on the floor shortly before stepping between the posts for the tense shootout, which United would go on to win 7-6.

That was lucky for De Gea after his pre-penalties research failed to pay off as he was sent the wrong way with every effort – with Solly March’s final spot kick being blasted over the bar to send them to the final against rivals Man City.
