Manchester United fans have been left furious over the decision to award West Ham a penalty in their 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium.

The Red Devils suffered their fourth Premier League defeat of the season against the Hammers to apply more pressure on Erik ten Hag.

West ham took the lead through Crysencio Summerville’s finish in the far post after 74 minutes before Casemiro’s header levelled the scoring seven minutes later.

The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute when Danny Ings went down under a challenge from Matthijs de Ligt.

Jarrod Bowen successfully converted from the spot to hand West Ham a much needed win.

United fans have taken to social media to bemoan referee David Coote’s decision to award a penalty despite a VAR review.

One said: ‘That’s a disgrace. The game is gone, I can’t believe I witnessed this being given as a penalty.’.

Another wrote: ‘HOW IS THAT A PENALTY. This is a disgrace. That is no way in line with decision making in the Premier League this season. This is one of the worst decisions I can remember. In no way is that a clear & obvious penalty decision.’

‘Howard Webb needs to sack this p****!!!! That is a disgrace of a decision. It’s the the most not obvious penalty in history’, a third United fan posted on X.

Explaining the decision, the Premier League said in a statement’

‘The referee did not award a penalty to West Ham for a challenge by de Ligt on Ings’.

‘The VAR deemed there was sufficient contact on Ings’ lower leg and recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned his original.
