Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount for £60million.
Following talks over the previous 24 hours, the two clubs have found a resolution to an impasse in talks.
The deal is understood to be £60million inclusive of add-ons. The add-ons are understood to be achievable.
He will now undergo a medical and are personal terms before signing a long-term deal at Old Trafford, which is understood to be a five-year deal.
Mail Sport reported last month that Mount had emerged as Erik ten Hag’s priority target this summer.
Manchester United have finally agreed a £60m deal with Chelsea for Mason Mount – with Erik ten Hag set to land his priority target
The news will come as a blow to new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, who was a huge admirer of Mount
The Red Devils have been chasing Mount for most of the window but had three bids rejected – the third of which came last week at around £55m – before United walked away from the negotiating table.
United were reluctant to pay over the odds for a player who had one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and had looked at Brighton’s Moises Caicedo as an alternative.
But they have now agreed to pay an initial fee of £55m with £5m in add-ons.
The news will come as a blow to new boss Mauricio Pochettino, who was an admirer of Mount and saw him fitting well into his system at the club.
He has a huge task of overhauling the club but does have new signing Christopher Nkunku who can fill into the playmaking role behind the striker.
Mount will hope his impressive collection of silverware continues at Old Trafford after he won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021
Owner Todd Boehly is overseeing a huge overhaul of the squad in a bid to turn Chelsea into title contenders in the near future
The move will allow Mount to play Champions League football after United third last season – and he’ll hope it gives him a chance to build on his impressive collection of silverware. So far, that includes the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
Mount leaving Chelsea will end a long-running spell that saw him join the Blues at the age of six back in 2005.
He earned a name for himself during early loan spells at Vitesse and Derby County – where he linked up with then-manager Frank Lampard – before the club legend gave him his first-team breakthrough when he became Chelsea boss in 2019.
Mount has gone on to play 195 times for Chelsea, scoring 33 goals.
