The son of a Manchester United great has put pen to paper on his first professional contract in football.

The 17-year-old has signed for Serbian outfit Zeljeznicar Pancevo as he seeks to follow in his dad’s footsteps.

His father’s name is one recognisable to every Premier League fan, having spent nine seasons in the English top flight during his illustrious career.

Now, his son will hope his journey to football’s upper echelons begins in the Serbian first division.

The player’s name is Luka Vidic, the eldest son of former Red Devils centre-back Nemanja.

Vidic Sr won 15 trophies and served as club captain at Old Trafford, while his son is set to take an important step up with the move to the top flight from second-tier side Vozdovac, where he has been playing in the uner-19 side.

In all he played 31 youth level matches for his former club, finding the net on one occasion.

He now hopes to make his senior debut with Zeljeznicar, where he has been given a first team squad number.

Zeleznicar have had an incredible rise from the fourth tier over the past decade with three promotions on their way to Serbian SuperLiga.

They currently sit fifth in the table after seven matches, just three points adrift from the top.

Nemanja Vidic made 300 appearances for United, scoring 21 goals in the process.

He lifted the Premier League five times and the Champions League in 2008, as well as three League Cups and the Club World Cup.

He is one of only four players to win the Premier League Player of the Season award twice, made even more impressive by the fact he was a defender.
