The son of Manchester United a great has joined Havant and Waterlooville for the rest of the season.

Rio Ferdinand’s goalkeeper son Lorenz is on the books at Brighton but will now spend the remainder of the campaign with the Hawks.

The seventh-tier side play in the Southern League Premier Division South, where they sit sixth in the table.

A club statement said: ‘Havant and Waterlooville Football Club are thrilled to announce that goalkeeper Lorenz Ferdinand has joined on work experience from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion for the remainder of the season!

‘Ferdinand, 18, came through the set-up at Brighton & Hove Albion where he now continues to refine his trade in their Under-21’s set-up.

‘Lorenz links up with Shaun North’s side for the run-in as the push towards the end of the season continues!

‘We welcome Lorenz to the Hawks and look forward to seeing him in action very soon.’ 

Speaking following the announcement, Ferdinand Jr said: ‘it’s been really good. Everyone has made me feel really welcome.’

‘It’s a great club from what I’ve seen so far. It’s good to be in and around the boys.’ 

Ferdinand Sr has five children and 18-year-old Lorenz is the eldest of them.

He signed a management deal with agency New Era Global Sports in 2023 and his dad posted about it on Instagram. 

‘Our eldest is on his own journey in football,’ he wrote. ‘Another nice moment signing with @neweraglobalsports , well earned through hard work & dedication.

‘It’s a long road full of ups and downs, so the right & professional support is required – so step forward @neweraglobalsports. Love you Lorenz.’

He has made one appearance for the Seagulls in PL2 this season, playing four minutes in a 4-2 win over Southampton and letting in one goal during that time.
