Manchester United will listen to offers for Antony this summer as the Brazil winger’s miserable Old Trafford career continues to fizzle out.

United may struggle to recoup even half the £86million Antony cost from Ajax 18 months ago, making him the second most expensive signing in the club’s history.

But it’s a measure of the disappointment over the 24-year-old’s form that United are prepared to cut their losses and sell him.

Antony has started just one of the last eight games – at Newport County in the FA Cup – and was named as a substitute again when United lost to Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Teenager Omari Forson was chosen ahead of him, and manager Erik ten Hag sent on three substitutes including another young winger, Amad Diallo, before turning to Antony in the final minute of injury-time.

Antony has now gone 20 Premier League appearances this season without contributing a single goal or assist to his team.

With new co-owners Ineos scrutinising the cost and effectiveness of the United squad following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3billion investment, his figures make grim reading.

Ten Hag went back to his old club Ajax to sign Antony in the summer of 2022 and it’s understood that the Dutchman has not given up on the player, believing he still has the ability to turn his career in England around.

But Ten Hag admitted last month that Antony has been distracted by allegations of domestic abuse, which he strongly denies, that led to him being dropped by Brazil in September and spending some time back in South America to clear his name.

In the wake of the Fulham defeat, the United boss was forthright in his explanation for playing Alejandro Garnacho, Forson and Diallo ahead of his expensive Brazilian flop.

‘It was nothing to do with fitness,’ said Ten Hag. ‘He’s fit but we have many options on the right.

‘We have all seen Antony’s form and he has to step up. I see it in training but also Omari Forson and Amad Diallo and Garnacho deserve to play.’
