Especially when you consider that McCarthy will be charged with mentoring and coaching one of the deadliest goal getters on the planet in Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fans have voiced their amusement and imagining what the 44-year-old can tell the Portuguese legend about goal-scoring.

With one fan stating ‘Never thought I’d see the day Benni McCarthy would be coaching Cristiano Ronaldo. A crazy world we live in’.

While another said he thought ‘We have to be living in a simulation’ at the thought of McCarthy working with the United number seven.

However, not all United fans are opposed at seeing a new face among the back room, especially one who is a record goal-scorer for his country.

Some have even described the star, who was part of Jose Mourinho’s 2004 Champions League winning Porto side, as the best striker at the club.

Others have suggested that McCarthy could teach the strikers at the club all about working the 18-yard area.
