Man watches pregnant girlfriend, 18, die in horror crash

A 18-year-old woman and her unborn child were killed on Wednesday after their car was hit by an ‘intoxicated’ off-duty firefighter in Texas.

Alyssa Pimentel was able to tell her boyfriend, Isaiah Perez, 21, that she loved him before she took her last breath after they were both ejected from their Mazda SUV when 45-year-old Horace Shaw III rear-ended them.

Perez said he crawled over to ‘the love of his life’ and ‘she said she loved me but other than that I had seen her fade away,’ he told NBC.

Cedar Hill police and fire crews responded to the scene around 12.45am on Wednesday.

Shaw was off-duty at the time and is suspected of driving drunk. Witnesses told police that the Mercedes was traveling at what appeared to be more than 100mph.

Investigators were also told Shaw had been drinking at a bar before the crash, police said.

Pimentel was due to deliver her son around Christmas, according to her family.

She had just picked up Perez from work, and they were on their way home when the crash happened.

Perez suffered a broken leg and a fractured neck. Perez and Pimentel were taken to separate hospitals. Perez said he later learned doctors delivered their son, but the baby only survived a couple of minutes, according to NBC.

Shaw and his passenger were treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Pimentel’s father, Joe Pimentel, told WFAA-TV that he is devastated. He said the baby boy was going to be named Josiah.

Joe described his daughter as a ‘sweetheart, a kind, caring person who would have done anything for anyone.’

Alyssa’s mother, Jayne Pimentel, wrote on Facebook that she was disappointed that ‘an individual who is tasked with saving lives is responsible for taking the lives of our family members’.

The city has placed Shaw on administrative leave while the department conducts an internal investigation.

Shaw faces one count of intoxication manslaughter.

He was booked into the Dallas County Jail on Wednesday evening after being released from the hospital, police said. He posted $75,000 bond.
