Man who racially abused Centrelink staff in Adelaide apologises

The ex-girlfriend of the man who racially abused Centrelink staff in Adelaide has defended him.

Chantelle Berelemon described Troy Scott as a ‘genuinely nice bloke’ despite his explosive tirade earlier this week.

Mr Scott shocked Australia when he was filmed calling a woman a ‘black b***h’ and questioned the woman on how much money she received.

However, his ex-girlfriend said the incident was a result of him not taking medication.

While the video has been viewed more than a million times, the 47-year-old revealed he had only recently seen the footage.

‘I didn’t vote for multiculturalism did I?’, Mr Scott was heard screaming in the video as staff tried to remove him.

‘But you will do whatever you can for every other c**t other than Australians.’

Mr Scott said his actions were a result of him not taking his ‘medication’ as he has ‘bipolar, anxiety with depression’, the publication reported.

‘I didn’t have my medication and that’s why I went to Centrelink to try and sort it out,’ he said.

‘If I offended anyone or upset anyone I am truly sorry.’

The 47-year-old said he would ‘smash’ staff as they attempted to protect children nearby at the welfare office in Salisbury, north of Adelaide on Monday.

As Mr Scott left the building he offered one final piece of abuse: ‘f**k youse all, you will pay me my f**king money’.

South Australian Police are yet to lay any charges, the publication reported.

As a result of the racial abuse incident, tougher penalties will be enforced for people who attack Centrelink staff.

Human Services Minister Michael Keenan has expressed his ‘disgust’ after viewing vision of the ‘ugly incident’.

Minister Keenan said the behaviour was ‘totally unacceptable’ and he has asked his Department to ‘urgently’ provide him with ways to stamp out aggression and violence.

‘Like most Australians I was disgusted to see video of someone abusing my staff and women and children in one of the service centres in Adelaide,’ the Minister said.

Minister Keenan said it was unfair for the 35,000 people in his department to go to work and fear they may be abused or assaulted.
