Man who sexually abused his step-daughter calls himself a ‘creep in the night’ in prison letter

The private thoughts of a paedophile who repeatedly raped his step-daughter have been laid bare in a series of letters that he penned from his jail cell.

The Illawarra man – who cannot be named for legal reasons – sexually abused his partner’s daughter over the course of more than five years while the girl was between the ages of eight and 13.

When the girl told her mother about the ongoing abuse – including one incident that caused her to bleed – she was dismissed out-of-hand as a liar, The Illawarra Mercury reports.

It wasn’t until after her step-father had been locked away for another crime in February of 2016 that the young girl informed police, who subsequently searched the man’s jail cell.

In a series of letters and poems written from his jail cell, a man who raped his step-daughter wrote that he tried hard ‘to fight….the creep in the night’ and referred to himself as an ‘ugly monster’ (file image)

‘Little did you know how hard I tried to fight….the creep in the night,’ reads a poem that was found in his personal possessions.

‘Little did you know how hard I tried to stay away from you because I knew what I was going to do.’

The man initially denied the poem was directed at his step-daughter, but later admitted to police that was in fact a lie.

Another letter saw him lamenting that ‘She wants another life away from her abuser… God, I’m such an ugly monster.’

The quiet atrocities of the self-proclaimed ‘creep in the night’ ironically only came to an end when police took him away for physically assaulting the step-daughter’s boyfriend, who’d found out about the abuse a month earlier.

The man was serving time for that offence when the young girl revealed the details of his abusive relationship to the authorities.

He has since been charged with multiple counts of domestic-related child abuse, to which he pleaded guilty last week in Wollongong Local Court (pictured)

The girl’s mother finally confronted the man about the abuse during a recorded jail call in 2017.

‘Did you touch my baby?’ she asked, to which he replied:

‘Yes, but not like that.’
