Man who ‘smelled like fuel’ with a torch gun arrested at the Capitol on Election Day

U.S. Capitol Police have arrested a man entering the Capitol Visitor Center who was doused in fuel and carrying a torch and flare gun on Election Day. 

The scary incident was reported around 1:45 pm ET on the Capitol Police’s X account.

‘Our officers just arrested a man who was stopped during our screening process at the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC),’ the post says.

‘The man smelled like fuel, had a torch & a flare gun.’

‘The CVC is closed for tours for the day, while we investigate,’ the Capitol Police post concludes.

An individual was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police after entering the Capitol visitor’s center smelling like fuel and carrying a torch and flare. The frightening incident was reported around 1:45 pm ET and the visitor’s center was promptly closed

The lawmakers who usually occupy the halls of Congress are notably back in their districts this week, most of them up for reelection. 

The individual was apprehended at the screening area of the visitor’s center, Fox News reports. 

Congressional security sources revealed to the outlet that the suspect’s clothing was sopping wet and reeked of fuel when he approached. 

Smelling the odor and detecting something was wrong the Capitol Police immediately arrested the man and his clothes were removed.  

A blow torch, flare gun and other incendiary liquids were discovered on the man after he was searched.

Fox News reveals that this man also had a 25-page manifesto he supposedly wanted to give to give to Congress.

The sources said the individual was a white male in his late-20s who drove overnight from Michigan to Washington. 

They also told the outlet the man was acting alone and was not previously identified to Capitol Police.
