A man who went missing eight years ago while he was out walking his dogs in Houston, Texas has been found alive with cuts and bruises all over his body.

Rudy Farias, then 17, was reported missing in 2015 and is now recovering in a hospital bed after being discovered slumped outside of a church.

He was found on Saturday with blood found in his hair, showing obvious signs that he had been badly abused and beaten, according to his worried mother.

Farias was reunited with his family the same day after an agonizing period where they did not know what had happened to him.

His mother said they have tried to speak to him, but he will only say a few words and adopts the fetal position.

She said it will be a long healing journey but she is pleased that he has been found alive.

Farias went missing while he was walking his two dogs near his family’s home near Tidwell and Park Drive on March 6, 2015.

His family reported him missing after the dogs were recovered.

Good Samaritans called the emergency services when they found the boy unresponsive outside a church, his mother said. She told KPRC he was in ‘bad shape’ mentally and physically.

At the time that he went missing, he suffered from PTSD, depression and anxiety, Texas EquuSearch said in 2015.

‘It is possible he is disoriented as he has not been taking his medication,’ the organization said as they launched a search.

They also noted that he had attempted suicide in the past.

Years before he disappeared, his brother was killed in a motorcycle crash, the family said in 2015, according to NBC News.

‘He watched his best friend die right in front of him,’ Brenda Paradise, a private investigator hired by the family, said in 2015.

Texas EquuSearch director Tim Miller told KPRC: ‘How did this happen? We believe in miracles and this certainly was a miracle.

‘I can’t even tell you how many times we searched and how many leads and tips came in and they just kind of faded away and now all of a sudden, this.’

He added: ‘There’s a lot to investigate to kind of see what happened, where it happened, how it happened.’

Authorities said they temporarily suspended the search for Farias on March 10, 2015, while they attempted to gather more information.

On March 12, the hunt continued but it was stopped the following day.

Authorities did not initially believe foul play was involved when he disappeared.
