Manchester bomber flown to Tripoli for ‘secret burial’

  • He detonated his explosive device at the Ariana Grande concert in May
  • The bomb was packed full of nuts and bolts to exacerbate the victims’ injuries
  • The terrorist was buried in Tripoli without a full Islamic ceremony

The remains of Manchester Arena suicide bomber Salman Abedi have been secretly flown to Libya for burial after mosques here snubbed his family, it was claimed last night.

Abedi, 23, the Manchester-born son of Libyan refugees, was buried without a full Islamic ceremony, said Noman Benotman, of anti-extremist think tank Quilliam.

Abedi detonated a bomb full of nuts and bolts at a concert by American pop star Ariana Grande in May, killing 22 and injuring 512.

Mr Benotman tweeted: ‘After Manchester mosques refused to bury the remains of terrorist Salman Abedi, British authorities allowed his family to move him to Libya, where he was buried in Tripoli.’

Last week, Greater Manchester Police issued an arrest warrant for Abedi’s younger brother Hashem, 20, who has been held in Tripoli as a suspect by Libyan militia.

This weekend, the militia also arrested a Libyan cleric called Abdel Razzaq Mushaireb, who is accused of leading a militant youth group said to have trained Abedi before ‘sending’ him to Islamic State in Libya.
