Manchester City arrive at training ahead of Carabao Cup

Manchester City have arrived at training ahead of their Carabao Cup tie at West Brom while captain Vincent Kompany was chauffeured into the grounds of the Etihad Campus.

Pep Guardiola’s side will travel to the Hawthorns boasting an unbeaten start to the season in all competitions, and sit top of the Premier League alongside rivals Manchester United.

But as the side arrive at training, one thing stands out. That being Belgium international Kompany, who was driven into training by a chauffeur.

The 31-year-old has recently recovered from a calf injury suffered during the international break, and could feature for City in their third round clash on Wednesday night.

Wealth was oozing through the Etihad Campus with a host of Mercedes, Bentleys and Porsches covering the car park.

Leroy Sane boasted the most ‘out-there’ vehicle as he pulled up in his matte green Mercedes, while goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and Gabriel Jesus joined training, showing off their respective Mercedes.

Fresh from his nomination for the Golden Boy award, the Brazilian, who has scored 11 goals in his 15 starts for Guardiola’s team, will be looking to follow in the footsteps of team-mates Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling – winners of the honour in 2007 and 2014 respectively.

The nomination will fill Guardiola with joy after he watched his side demolish Watford 6-0 at Vicarage Road on Saturday – a game which saw Jesus find the net, and Aguero claim a memorable hat trick – and has praised his team and employers for the commitment shown to their cause.

‘Last season there was new enthusiasm with a new manager and new players and everybody expecting (a lot),’ he said following the win that saw them go top of the Premier League.

‘Now we are more stable, we know each other better. And the new players have come to help us be better.

‘The fundamentals of what we do are the same but the difference is we have good balance, good players and good spirit.

‘Day by day I say thank you to the club – to all the people involved for buying these players. All managers have their own good ideas of how to play but without these players that we have right now, it’s more complicated.’

While Kyle Walker’s former boss Mauricio Pochettino had recently downplayed the competition, the Englishmen, who arrived in a black Audi, will not be as he dreams of his first piece of silverware since joining from Spurs for £50m.
