  • Pep Guardiola said that the club will decide on his fitness later this afternoon
  • Haaland is recovering from a groin problem he picked up against Burnley

Manchester City are set to face Liverpool this weekend in a crucial Premier League showdown and currently sweating over the fitness of star man Erling Haaland.

Haaland is currently struggling with a groin problem. The Norwegian picked up the injury after scoring a hat-trick in City’s 6-0 victory over Burnley in their FA Cup quarter-final match earlier this month. The forward was forced to pull out of Norway’s Euro qualifiers against Spain and Georgia.

The forward has not trained with his club team-mates for the last two days, and manager Pep Guardiola said that the club have one more training session before their match against Liverpool on Saturday, with Haaland not yet ruled out of the game.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Guardiola said: ‘We’ll see today and the doctors – and especially the player – will decide. I spoke with him, he feels good. Life is risk in these stages, we have to take it.

‘We have an incredible medical team, who control the players perfectly. We’ve mainly had the squad all ready but you can have a period with injuries.

‘In general I’m happy to arrive at the end of the season with the majority of the players available. Everyone has to be involved. We’ve scored a lot of goals this season and he has scored a lot.’

City will be without Phil Foden, who had surgery to remove his appendix while away with England.

‘The doctors tell me it’ll be two or three weeks. We’ll see how he develops after his surgery,’ Guardiola added.

With Foden out of this weekend’s clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side, it looks as if Jack Grealish will start on the opposite flank to Riyad Mahrez.

City will face Liverpool on Saturday, April 1 at the Etihad Stadium, with the game kicking off at 12.30pm. The Manchester side are currently eight points behind league leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.
