Immediately after the full-time whistle, thousands of fans swarmed onto the pitch and ran towards City players in delight.

Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne jogged towards the tunnel being escorted off amid security concerns leaving some fans in the upper tiers fuming.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville said on Sky Sports: ‘There’s a lot of booing from the fans in the upper tier, they want those people off the pitch to allow the celebrations to happen, but that’s going to take a while.’

Rival fans also took to social media to condemn the pitch invasion, with some labelling their actions as ’embarrassing’ and ‘forced’

One fan tweeted: ‘That was the most cringe and forced pitch invasion ever. Even their own fans were booing.’

‘City fans, if you win it during the match then yeah pitch invasion makes sense but you guys won it yesterday ??! Have some shame. embarrassing,’ said another fan.

A third mirrored those views as he wrote: ‘Man City are honestly embarrassing will forever be tinpot, why have they pitch invaded after that ffs’

The Etihad pitch was cleared after 20 minutes before preparations for the trophy presentation got underway.

Nottingham Forest’s win over Arsenal on Saturday meant Premier League leaders Man City cannot be caught, sealing a third consecutive title in the process.

Julian Alvarez scored the only goal of the game against Chelsea before the celebration party got underway.
