Manchester City got a ‘reality check’ on Wednesday evening after their 3-0 humbling against Liverpool, claimed Roy Keane.
The former United midfielder felt it was further proof that Pep Guardiola’s men can still not be considered ‘a great team’ despite their dominance in the Premier League this season.
‘There has been a lot of hype about this Manchester City team, talk about them being a great team,’ he told ITV.

‘It was a reality check for this team tonight, they have a lot to do yet before they want to be regarded as a great team.’
First-half goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane saw Jurgen Klopp’s men put one foot in the Champions League semi-final.
After the defeat, City captain Vincent Kompany came out speaking with purpose with talk that his team-mates ‘will throw the kitchen sink’ at the Etihad next Tuesday.
He said it was further proof that Pep Guardiola’s men can still not be considered ‘a great team’
It was fighting talk from Kompany, but Keane believes the City players will be stunned and struggling to accept it after losing by such a deficit.
He added: ‘You look at City players there, they will be shell-shocked. There is no way they would have viasualised being 3-0 down after the first leg tonight.
‘Even if they thought they were in for a tough night, I’m sure they thought they were going to score a goal, so they will be shell-shocked.
‘I think for what we have seen this season, they showed a real lack of quality tonight but you have to give Liverpool credit for that.’
