Manchester United ‘are being priced out for moves of Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Atletico’s Kieran Trippier with LaLiga giants wanting a combined sum of £100m for defensive pair’

  • United are reportedly priced out of deals for Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier
  • Varane is valued at £70m despite having one year left on his deal, say reports
  • Atleti have reportedly placed an asking price of over £30m for England’s Trippier

Manchester United are unwilling to meet the asking prices set by Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid for Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are looking to bolster their defence this summer to compete with the likes of first-team regulars Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Varane has been linked with a move away from Real while Atleti defender Trippier caught the eye with some impressive displays during the club’s LaLiga title-winning season last term.

But according to ESPN, both players would cost a combined total of over £100million so United will not be pursuing the Spain-based pair in the current transfer window.

The report claims Varane is valued at £70million despite having one-year left on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, while Atleti want more than £30million for their first-choice right-back.

Diego Simeone reportedly values the England international right-back so highly that Atletico are unwilling to sell the player as they do not trust back-up option Sime Vrsaljko.

Both United targets are playing at the ongoing European Championships with Varane part of World Cup winners’ France, while Trippier is a full-back option for England this summer.

Varane has been at Real for a decade, winning three LaLiga titles, four Champions League trophies and four FIFA Club World Cups with the Spanish giants, who he has played 359 times for since his Los Blancos debut.

But Real announced earlier this week that club captain and stalwart Sergio Ramos will be leaving the club when his contract expires on June 30, with Manchester City strongly linked with a move for the Spaniard.

Sportsmail revealed on Thursday that United will not be making a move for Ramos, despite having previous interest in the Spain defender when Louis van Gaal was manager.

Real also signed Bayern Munich defender David Alaba on a free transfer earlier this summer, with Eder Militao and Nacho the other two recognised centre-halves at the club.

Trippier, meanwhile, has spent the last two years in the Spanish capital, playing 68 times for Los Rojibancos.

The 30-year-old picked up the first trophy of his career last season by winning the Spanish league title, having failed to win a major honour at former club Tottenham.
