Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag again backs Marcus Rashford to return to scoring form after a poor start to the season and Copenhagen red card as Reds face must-win game with Luton

  • Rashford has managed just one goal in 15 outings for United this season
  • His season hit a fresh low when he was sent off in defeat to Copenhagen
  • ‘It’s Erik ten Games’ – surely he has to beat Luton now – It’s All Coming Up

Erik ten Hag has again backed Marcus Rashford to come good despite the Manchester United star’s poor start to the season.

Rashford finished as United’s top scorer with 30 goals last season, and was rewarded with a new £300,000-a-week contract in the summer.

But he has found the net just once in 15 games this term, and hit a new low in Denmark on Wednesday night when he was sent off in United’s Champions League defeat to FC Copenhagen.

But Ten Hag once again threw his support behind the misfiring forward, and insisted that Rashford will rediscover top form.

‘I think he is not happy, and we are not happy,’ said the United boss. ‘He has high expectations for himself and in this moment he is not in his best form.

‘I know he will be back and when the team is playing better, he will play better and score goals. I am confident in that.

‘He will improve and score goals this season. He is totally aware of everything, so he will be back on track.

‘It can happen very quickly. Sometimes you only need one game and I am sure we will get there.’
