  • Others said that he should be afforded more minutes under boss Erik ten Hag

Manchester United fans have taken to social media to heap praise on Zidane Iqbal’s performance during their pre-season friendly against Liverpool on Tuesday evening.

The Red Devils secured a 4-0 victory over their Premier League rivals while away on tour in Thailand, but it was Iqbal’s performance that caught attention.

Iqbal was a half-time substitute, coming on to replace Fred when Manchester United were leading the game 3-0.

Tuesday evening’s fixture marked a dream start for new United boss Erik ten Hag. Jadon Sancho opened the scoring in the 11th minute to give the Red Devils the lead.

Brazilian midfielder Fred then doubled United’s lead with a cheeky lob to beat the Reds shot-stopper in the 30th minute of the friendly at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.

Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri also found the back of the net in the match that has sent Manchester United fans wild on Twitter.

However, supporters took to social media to discuss the performance of Iqbal. One fan even said the 19-year-old was the ‘best Zidane in history’.

One supporter took to Twitter to say: ‘Zidane Iqbal reminds me of a young Thiago don’t wanna hype him but was really impressed with him and Savage’.

Another fan added: ‘When you’re named Zidane Iqbal, you’re duty-bound to be masterly at football.’

One supporter said that the young starlet should be given ‘lots of playing time’ under the new Manchester United manager.

They wrote the following on Twitter: ‘Zidane Iqbal should be given lots of playing time, he’s performance was superb’.

Another added: ‘I really love the way you handle the midfield. You’re such a genius boy! Keep it up’.

Others simply wrote: ‘Zidane Iqbal is going to be a beast’ and ‘Zidane Iqbal is an amazing player’. While another fan said: ‘best Zidane in history’.

Iqbal, who has represented the senior international Iraq side, thrived in Manchester United’s midfield and held his own against the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho.

He was calm and composed on the ball – making the right decisions despite being put under vast amounts of pressure.

Iqbal’s movement throughout the game was also impressive. The 19-year-old’s spatial awareness allowed him to occupy the right position to be available for passes.

He also delivered the ball well and demonstrated a good range of passes – having floated one over the top to Anthony Elanga, who was later flagged for being offside.

Therefore, his performance will have not only impressed the fans… but United’s new head coach, Ten Hag. As a result, he could be afforded more first XI opportunities.
