Manchester United are weighing up an improved offer for Ajax forward Antony after the Brazilian made it clear he wishes to join them.

The 22-year-old missed today’s 1-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam after he trained alone in the week following news of United making a £67.8million offer. 

Ajax rejected that bid and manager Alfred Schreuder has demanded the club resist any more offers.

‘I am assuming that the club will not sell Antony as we’re in good financial position,’ said Schreuder. ‘I told the board that I want him to stay here.’

United staff are aware of Antony’s intent to join them but Ajax are equally adamant he will not be sold.

As they wait to see if the deadlock breaks, United are prepared to step up negotiations with PSV Eindhoven for Cody Gakpo.
