Manchester United ‘set to beat Chelsea to the signing of Harry Amass’

Manchester United ‘set to beat Chelsea to the signing of Harry Amass’, Watford’s 16-year-old attacking full-back who made first-team squad in January aged just 15

  • Full-back is expected to join Manchester United who’ve beaten off competition
  • Harry Amass is one of the most highly-rated teenagers in the country right now
  • Chelsea also said to be interested in acquiring the Watford youngster’s services

Harry Amass is set to join Manchester United after they beat off competition from the likes of Chelsea for the Watford starlet’s signature, it has been reported.

The 16-year-old has become one of the most sought after British teenagers in recent years after first making an appearance for an England youth side back in 2021.

Despite having only made appearances for Watford’s youth teams so far in his career, Amass has been touted for a big future in the game.

Now, according to the Evening Standard, he is set to join United having been enticed by their offer ahead of other English giants.

It has been reported that despite interest from the likes of Chelsea, United will be his next club.

The player is said to view moving to a bigger club, and thus making use of bigger and better facilities, as a key step for his development.

The defender, who has played as a left-back and as a centre-back, was named among the substitutes for Watford’s FA Cup clash with Reading in January.

Under Charlie Daniels, Amass has established himself as one of the foremost young player’s at Watford, having been largely a mainstay in their under-18s side.

His imminent signing follows that of Gabriele Biancheri, another highly rated 16-year-old who it was announced last month would be joining United as a scholar this year before signing professional terms in September.

He joined the club from Cardiff City having completed his medical last month.

Clearance for the transfer from FIFA and paperwork needing to be signed to complete the move had somewhat delayed the transfer.

Despite having never made a senior team appearance, Biancheri was chased by a number of Premier League clubs, though opted to join United.

Born in 2006, Biancheri is a forward who most often likes to be deployed centrally. He is eligible to play for Wales, England or Italy.

Having played for Cardiff’s under-18s in the FA Youth Cup this term and trained with their under-21s, Biancheri is one of the promising young players to have emerged in the UK in the last year or so.

It will be hoped that his development can be further harnessed by the Premier League giants, who possess a consistent track record of turning academy prospects into first team stars.

It is the latest United involvement with the Cardiff academy, with David Hughes, the Championship club’s former academy chief, joining the Premier League giants as their Professional Development Phase coach last summer.
