Manchester United ‘tell Mary Earps she’s not for sale’ ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline… despite England No 1 being no closer to sign a new deal as she enters final year of her contract

  • Mary Earps has less than 12 months left on her deal with United
  • Arsenal have had two bids rejected for the England goalkeeper
  • United are adamant they do not want to sell Earps to a WSL rival

Manchester United are adamant Mary Earps will not be sold this summer, despite being no closer to agree a deal with the England goalkeeper.

The Lionesses star was out of contract in June but United triggered an option to extend her deal by a year.

Arsenal have had two bids, understood to be higher than the £100,000 record fee for a goalkeeper, rejected by United – who insist Earps is not for sale ahead of Thursday’s Women’s Super League transfer deadline.

According to The Telegraph, the club and Earps discussed her situation over the weekend when United made clear they were unwilling to sell to a rival club.

Earlier this summer, United lost Alessia Russo on a free transfer to Arsenal after knocking back the Gunners’ approach for the England striker in January.

Spain’s World Cup-winning right-back Ona Battle also left United on a free transfer after her deal expired, returning to Barcelona in June.

As Mail Sport reported last week, United have made extending Earp’s stay at the club a priority but no progress has been made so far.

United still believe they can convince Earps, who won the FIFA Best Goalkeeper of the Year award last month, to commit her future to the club but the goalkeeper remains reluctant to put pen to paper.

In May, the England star admitted her future was ‘a little bit uncertain’ and earlier this month The Athletic reported she cut an isolated figure after returning to training after the Women’s World Cup.

Earps travelled to Munich last week along with England teammates Ella Toone and Katie Zelem with United for a pre-season friendly against Bayern, but none of the trio featured in the 3-2 loss.

Mail Sport reported last week that United want to sign OL Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who could serve as a potential replacement for Earps, but have not yet been able to agree a fee with the American club.

Speaking after Arsenal’s surprise loss in the Champions League against Paris FC, Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall declined to address the rumours surrounding Earps.

‘Individuals, we never comment [on],’ he said.

‘We remain active in the transfer market. There might be business to be done but we do not comment on specific individuals.’
