Manchester United trigger one-year extension on Jesse Lingard’s contract to ensure midfielder cannot leave for free in the summer

  • Manchester United have taken up their option to extend Jesse Lingard’s contract
  • The 28-year-old is not in favour at United but they do not want him gone for free 
  • Lingard’s representatives are exploring the possibility of a loan move away  

Manchester United have triggered the one-year extension clause in Jesse Lingard’s contract. 

The Old Trafford club were determined to ensure he did not leave for nothing in the summer and will now look to sell the England international. 

Lingard’s contract will expire in 2022 but his future appears to be away from United, having failed to feature in either the Premier League and Champions League this season.
