Manchester United’s summer strategy is to buy front-line striker before any other business

Manchester United are prioritising a world class No 9 before ANY other business this summer, with a younger forward also on the agenda… with further squad upgrades to be funded through player sales

  • Club see recruitment of elite striker as crucial to Erik Ten Hag’s long-term plans
  • Mail Sport understands Man Utd are focused on a young forward to bolster unit
  • Further summer additions are expected to be funded through players sales

Manchester United’s No 1 priority this summer is to acquire an elite striker to spearhead their attack next season.

Mail Sport understands that United are pursuing numerous options to lead their line in 2023-24, prioritising a striker ahead of reinforcements in other areas.

Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are among the names who have been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. Erik Ten Hag has been on the hunt for a new frontman ever since Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrimonious departure in November.

The club opted for a short-term solution in the January transfer window and snapped up Wout Weghorst on a loan for the remainder of the season, only for the 30-year-old to fail to make a mark. He will return to parent club Burnley.

With goal-shy Weghorst and injury-prone Anthony Martial as the only two out-and-out options up front, much of the goalscoring burden has fallen to Marcus Rashford, who has responded to record his highest-scoring season.

The 25-year-old has netted 30 times in all competitions, more than double the next best tally of 13 registered by Bruno Fernandes. Martial has hit nine in another patchy campaign, while Brazilian winger Antony has scored eight times in his debut season with the club.

As a result, a big name forward is key to Ten Hag’s continued success with the club and is the main priority for this summer.

Alongside the demand for a frontman, the club are also said to be determined to acquire a young striker to further bolster their attacking options.

Reinforcements at centre back as well as in goal will be funded by money generated from player sales. Mail Sport understands United’s transfer strategy is to be focused primarily on the final third with further incomings dependent on outgoings.
