Manhattan bicycle mob smashes cars and terrorizes drivers

A violent bike-riding mob has smashed up several cars and terrorized drivers in Manhattan, leaving one police officer with minor injuries.

The roving gang of 14 to 16 bicycle riders descended on New York’s Chelsea neighborhood near West 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue at around 5pm on Saturday, police said.

Video from the scene shows males on bikes, some in masks, riding the wrong way in traffic, surrounding cars and harassing drivers.

Driver Timothy Lanley was attacked by members of the mob, who smashed his rear windshield and hit him in the head when he rolled down his window to warn them off.

‘They mobbed the car. And then when I got out the car to tell them not to do what they was doing to the car, they attacked me,’ he told NBC New York.

In the chaos, Lanley sideswiped a police officer who was on foot patrol, injuring the cop in the leg and hand.

Police say the incident appears to be accidental on the driver’s part and have not brought charges.

Another witness, an Uber driver who did not wish to be named, was trying to drop off a passenger on 23rd Street when the hot-headed gang surrounded his car, kicking and bashing it.

Dashcam video from that car shows the cyclists weaving in and out of traffic and blocking his lane to prevent him from passing.

The driver pulled over and alerted police in a stopped patrol car. He estimates damage to his vehicle at $1000.

Lanley, the driver who was injured, was treated at the scene for wooziness after he was struck.

Cops have made no arrests in the incident.

‘Some way or another it has to stop,’ Lanley told Pix11. ‘So nobody else will get hurt, so none of them will get hurt, and nobody else will be victims of what they’re doing.’
