Police launched a manhunt Saturday for Phillip Maglaya, a 25-year-old high school wrestling coach believed to have run away with a missing 16-year-old girl

A California high school wrestling coach is believed to have run away with a missing 16-year-old girl after the pair’s ‘romantic relationship’ was discovered.

Police launched a manhunt Saturday for Phillip Maglaya, a 25-year-old volunteer coach at Franklin High School in Stockton.

The teen, whose name has not been released because she is a minor, disappeared on Wednesday, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. 

Maglaya and the teen are said to be traveling in a green 1994 Toyota extra-cab pickup truck with license plate number 8G91493.

The school district told FOX40 Maglaya began working at Franklin last year after having passed all background checks.  

School officials have been cooperating with police in the search for the 16-year-old.  

San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with information to call 209-468-4400, or the Investigations Unit at 209-468-4425.
