Hawi was released on parole in 2015 after spending years in jail for his role in the death of Anthony Zervas during a brawl at Sydney Airport in 2009.

Zervas was killed in a fight between Comanchero and Hells Angels bikies, and Hawi was convicted of murder before having his charge downgraded to manslaughter.
