Manhunt in Melbourne after innocent man killed in Burwood crash

A man has died after being hit by a stolen car as two teenage girls are arrested and police hunt for a group of boys who fled the horror collision.

A black SUV collided with a silver sedan at the intersection of Warrigal Road and Highbury Road in Burwood, in Melbourne’s inner-east, at about 7pm on Tuesday. 

The male driver of the sedan, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene. 

His car was destroyed and ended up in the front yard of a house on the corner. 

The stolen SUV travelled further down the road before crashing into a tree. 

Two 15-year-old girls were arrested at the scene and taken to hospital where they remain under police guard on Wednesday.

Several males inside the car are reported to have fled the scene on foot with police launching a massive manhunt on Tuesday night. 

Highway patrol, the dog squad and the public order response team were used in the search while Major Collision detectives processed the scene. 

Victoria Police are hopeful the two teenage girls will be able to provide some information about the males who fled the scene.

‘The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and police have cordoned off the area,’ police said in a statement on Tuesday.
