Manhunt underway after a driver high on drugs rammed his car into two police vehicles before fleeing the scene

A driver believed to be high on drugs has been filmed ramming into two police cars multiple times in a shopping centre carpark before taking off in his Holden Commodore.

Police had carried out a welfare check on the man following reports he was unresponsive in his car in the Campbellfield Plaza carpark, in Melbourne’s north, at about 7.40am on Saturday.

But when police approached the man’s white sedan, he suddenly woke up and became aggressive.

The man then turned on his engine and repeatedly smashed into the two police cars parked nearby, reversing and driving forward into them several times.

Three police officers desperately tried to stop the man, and even deployed capsicum spray onto the driver whose door was open.

They also attempted to drag the driver out of the car but he couldn’t be stopped and instead drove out of the carpark.

Police later found the Commodore, which didn’t have any number plates, abandoned some 8km away in Reservoir. It has been seized for forensic examination.

Investigations into the man’s whereabouts are ongoing.

No police were injured during the altercation but a police van sustained moderate damage as well as a civilian’s car.
