A construction crew have discovered a man’s body in a hospital car park after stumbling upon the grisly scene as they arrived at work.

The man in his 50s was found in a car park stairwell at Perth Royal Hospital on Thursday morning and had suffered injuries to his face and body.

Investigators were called to the car park on Wellington Street at 7.30am after workers raised the alarm.

Police have not said whether or not his death is being treated as suspicious. 

The area is commonly used by rough sleepers, The West Australian reported.

Forensic police were called in to comb the scene and police closed the car park to the public.

One witness said it was ‘scary’ to find out the body had been lying in the stairwell. 

‘There were just ambulances and police officers around and I thought it was a bit strange,’ the witness Dani Butler told 9News.

‘To hear something like that has happened – it’s pretty scary.’
