The four archetypes

  • The Nurturer: Always there to care for others. She is kind and compassionate, but this can come at the expense of her own self-care.
  • The Wonder Woman: Bases her self-worth on her accomplishments. She is ambitious and driven, but her work often takes precedent over her diet.
  • The Femme Fatale: She’s sensual, strong, and alluring but can become obsessed with her looks to the point that she develops an unhealthy relationship with food.
  • The Ethereal: She’s spiritual and intuitive, but highly sensitive to her environment so she tends to eat to numb her reactions to the world.

After observing thousands of women who wanted to lose weight, Ms James saw a common trend – no matter how diligent they were in sticking to their diet and exercise plans, old behavioral patterns and self-doubt sabotaged their efforts.

‘I wanted women to know that it wasn’t just lack of will power that had them falling off their diet. In actual fact, it had very little to do with that… it came down to where a woman sourced her self-worth from because that was going to take her off track,’ Ms James told the Channel Nine network.

THE WONDER WOMAN

The Wonder Woman sources her self-worth from her success and achievements.

‘So if that’s you, and that’s where you get your identity from, how are you going to behave? You’re going to be the one that’s going to pursue this excellence,’ Ms James said.

‘So you’re going to be working those long hours, answering emails at 10pm and you’ve got meetings booked back-to-back.’

Despite planning an ‘amazing diet’ to follow, Ms James said your busy schedule will interfere, making you skip your meal plan because you don’t have time for it.

‘Then at 3pm, you’re in the office kitchen, those brownies that you would absolutely ignore any other time, just happened to look good to you because you missed lunch,’ she said.

‘By the time you get home, you’re super hungry, you need a glass of wine, you’ve got to have that dark chocolate because that’s your reward for making it through the day.’

Poll

What kind of eater are you?

  • Wonder Woman 4 votes
  • Nurturer 13 votes
  • Femme Fatale 5 votes
  • Ethereal 3 votes

THE NURTURER

The Nurturer – who’s often dependable, loyal and thoughtful – doesn’t like to disappoint anyone – but this can come at the expense of her own self-care.

‘She senses her self-worth from caring and giving to others, and she’s very compassionate and kind,’ Ms James explained.

‘And when she gets tripped up, she tends to people please. She deprioritises herself and everybody else’s needs come before her. So she’s a comfort eater.’

THE FEMME FATALE

The Femme Fatale is sensual, strong, and alluring but can become obsessed with her looks to the point that she develops an unhealthy relationship with food.

‘The Femme Fatale sources her self-worth from her physical body. So it’s all about the way that she looks,’ Ms James said.

‘On the negative side, she gets very obsessed over her body and she tends to be a restrictive eater and then she can binge – but her food is very controlled.’

THE ETHEREAL

The Ethereal is spiritual and intuitive, but highly sensitive to her environment so she tends to eat to numb her reactions to the world.

‘The ethereal is very intuitive and free-spirited, she likes to be different so that’s where she sources her self-worth from,’ Ms James said.

‘And for her, the negative piece is she gets really scattered and she doesn’t tend to have so many issues with weight, it’s more than she’s prone to anxiety, she has bloating, she’s got depression because she has low estrogen levels.’
