Maria Fowler crashes Eva Price’s wedding on Corrie

It is one of the most highly-anticipated episodes of this year – and Eva Price and Aidan Connor’s wedding certainly goes out with a bang.

In scenes set to air on Monday, bride Eva, played by Catherine Tyldesley, is seen squaring up to her love rival Maria Connor after she crashes the pair’s big day, following the emergence of her affair with the groom.

With the event quickly descending into chaos, the two girls are seen furiously screaming at each other at the alter – before they embark on a dramatic physical clash in a fountain.

Just before their big day, Aidan, played by Shayne Ward, reveals to Eva that he has been having an affair with Maria, played by Samia Longchambon.

However Eva, who has been planning to ditch him at the altar as revenge for his infidelity, still agrees to go ahead with the wedding – blissfully unaware that Maria has sneaked into the venue.

As the nuptials get into full swing, a furious Maria then gatecrashes the wedding in explosive scenes, and denounces the ceremony as a sham to guests.

With Aidan having already come clean however, viewers will be on the edge of their seats waiting to see if Maria can call a halt to proceedings – or if she has more up her sleeve.

Whatever the outcome, the two girls are seen fiercely squaring up to each other and even embarking on a physical fight at the venue – making for undoubtedly dramatic viewing.

It was revealed earlier this month that Eva’s hotly-anticipated revenge wedding to Aidan will go awry, after he confesses to his affair.

Yet, Eva still decided to go ahead with her scheme to ditch her husband-to-be – in order to use his affair admission to expose Maria, on her hen night.

Elsewhere on the soap, things also go awry for Jenny Bradley (Sally Ann Matthews) and Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) when ailing Rita’s health takes a turn for the worse, forcing them to pause their plans and rush to the hospital.

Only adding to the soap’s drama, it was also revealed this week that the famous Cobbles are set to expand to a whole town – complete with shops, restaurants and its own square.

Last month Weatherfield Police Station was confirmed as a brand new set – and more have now been announced to allow the soap to host multiple storylines at once, following its decision to air an extra episode each week.

Producer Kate Oates revealed the exciting plans to What’s On TV Magazine, explaining: ‘There will be a couple of new businesses and we’re going to have a little park area, so not everything will happen at the Red Rec.

‘There may also be another eatery with a different kind of vibe. We have already got the cafe and bistro. It’s nice to see a community feel.’

Detailing the show’s decision to expand their location, she continued: ‘It does well for social dynamics if you’ve got people who were friends who are now colleagues or someone is someone’s boss. It always adds a nice energy.’

The new sets come as Coronation Street opted to extend its weekly line-up from five episodes to six this month, by broadcasting a double bill on Wednesdays.

The first extra show will air on September 20 at 8.30pm, fittingly marking the occasion with the double wedding of Aidan and Eva, and Jenny and Johnny.

Plans to extend the ITV soap’s billing were announced last year, but an official date was not confirmed.

Executive producer Kieran Roberts promised viewers: ‘We’re thrilled to be launching our extra weekly episode on Wednesday, September 20, at the heart of a truly unmissable week of heart-stopping drama, heart-breaking emotion and heart-warming comedy.’

He explained that plans for the new shows have taken more than a year to prepare and have included building an extension to the show’s Manchester set, which viewers will see next year.

Teasing further twists and turns to come in some of the show’s most dramatic storylines this month, series producer Kate Oates told how Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) will soon discover the horrifying truth of her stalker’s identity: her ex-boyfriend Will.

Comedian Jim Moir, best known by his stage name Vic Reeves, will also step into Weatherfield as newcomer Colin Callen.

Making his debut as the organiser of Norris and Mary Coyle’s Mr and Mrs Quiz competition, he will soon ruffle feathers as his influence spreads across the Cobbles.

Bethany Platt’s harrowing grooming storyline will also continue through autumn as the teenager (Lucy Fallon) faces the trial of her abuser Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper).

‘We are going to see if she makes it to court,’ said Oates. ‘It’s a huge deal for a girl in her position to face.

‘We still have the issue of Nathan’s friend, Mel, who he had brain-washed, who will try to stop Bethany going to court.’

She teased: ‘Will Nathan ever face justice?’
