The winger, who cost Inter £36m when he moved from Sporting Lisbon after the Euros, would be West Ham’s first signing of the window.
Moyes had been chasing Mario all month and and was extra keen to get the deal done having lost key player Marko Arnautovic to injury — he has been ruled out for two weeks.
Arnautovic has been in sensational form recently, netting six times in his last 10 appearances. Manuel Lanzini has also impressed this season but is currently out with an injury.
