Marketa Vondrousova inks her place in Wimbledon final and has a bet with her coach that could see him get a tattoo if she wins… as she bids to win her first Grand Slam against Ons Jabeur
Marketa Vondrousova has an agreement with her coach that he will have a Wimbledon badge tattooed on his body if she wins the title on Saturday.
Jan Mertl will have the insignia on an unspecified part of his person as part of the deal with the world No 42, who is a big fan of body art and has countless tattoos.
Vondrousova got her first one aged 16, and since beating Jo Konta in the 2019 French Open semi-final, they have appeared up both arms and, less visibly, on her torso.
Among them is the phrase, ‘No rain, no flowers’, reminding her that she has to work hard for success. ‘I have a bet with my coach.

‘If I win a Grand Slam, he’s going to get one, so I hope I will,’ she said after Thursday’s defeat of Elina Svitolina.
Vondrousova visits several tattoo parlours near her home in Prague and has become friendly with the female staff there.
‘We’ll see what happens and what I’ll do,’ she added, on whether she would join her coach in adding to her collection.
‘For me this is also art. I just like it and I appreciate the people who do it. I feel like it is work and it is also art.’
