Marla Maples details her semi-vegan, kosher diet

Marla Maples has the youthful appearance of a woman half her age, and her anti-aging secret may be her her strict diet that shuns processed sugars, dairy, and gluten.

The 54-year-old mother of Tiffany Trump recalled being raised by a family of hunters in a southern household where eating meat was like a tradition, but these days her mostly vegan diet is packed with plenty of vegetables, juices, and gluten-free grains.

While sharing what she eats in a day, Marla explained to People that she was actually a vegetarian until she read Eat Right 4 Your Type, a diet book that claims people should be tailoring their nutrition to their blood types.

‘I am a solid O+ which means a bit of lamb, beef or wild game is actually a boost for my lineage of Cherokee American roots,’ Marla said of her diet, which now allows the occasional piece of meat.

The former Dancing With the Stars is uniquely spiritual, and in addition to going to church, keeping Shabbat, and studying Kabbalah, she eats a kosher diet.

On the day she kept her food diary, Marla woke up and had hot water and lemon with a pinch of Himalayan or Celtic sea salt.

Miranda Kerr and Lauren Conrad are also fans starting their days with water with lemon, as the citric acid is said to stimulate the liver and help it detox.

Marla went on to have a wheatgrass shot, fresh green juice, and oatmeal with organic unsweetened hemp milk, fresh fruit and a dab of vegan yogurt (either coconut or cashew) topped with cinnamon.

For lunch, the mother-of-one filled up on a salad made up of brown rice, quinoa, kale, spinach, broccoli, Kalamata olives, chickpeas, cilantro, and artichoke hearts.

Later in the afternoon, she had a green juice for a ‘snack.’

Marla’s largest meal was dinner, which consisted of a salad tossed in lemon juice, olive oil, and Bragg’s liquid aminos, as well as loaded baked sweet potato.

Although it was another meat-free meal, Marla packed her potato with broccoli, tomato, avocado, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, and Daiya cheese.

She also didn’t skimp on the toppings, which included Bragg’s amino acid, hemp oil, tumeric powder, black pepper, Italian seasoning, Dulse flakes, and Himalayan sea salt.

Marla’s dessert was another glass of hot water, only this one was mixed with collagen powder instead of lemon juice.

At the end of the day, the slender blonde had consumed a total of 1,845 calories, many of which came from vegetables and grains.

Last week, Marla celebrated her 54th birthday at Paola’s, an Italian restaurant located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and she happily shared a photo of herself blowing out the candles on her cake — which was most likely dairy and gluten-free.

Unsurprisingly, the actress also loves to keep active, and she does everything from yoga to tennis to keep herself in shape.

The yoga devotee often shares photos and videos of herself doing handstands, attending workout classes, and playing softball with the Broadway Show League in Central Park.

Although she is known for her slender figure, Marla revealed in a 2008 interview with Naturally Savvy that was actually about 25lbs heavier when she had just gotten out of college.

‘I tried so many diets and exercise fads but what really helped me to get into my best shape was to include visualization in my process,’ she said. ‘I would see and “feel” myself running down the beach with limitless energy, feeling strong, healthy and vibrant.

‘ I have used this technique in sports, rush hour and in beauty. Believe your thoughts with absolute certainty and remember to make them positive ones!’
