Married at First Sight is snubbed as the first Logie awards for 2019 are announced 

It’s TV’s night of nights with all of Australia’s brightest stars and shows up for coveted awards. 

And the first cab off the rank was Most Popular Reality Program, with MasterChef taking the win. 

Despite being a ratings smash, Married at First Sight proved controversy doesn’t pay as the action-packed reality hit was snubbed.

MasterChef judge Gary Mehigan accepted the award and seemed surprised by the honour. 

Taking to the stage, he said: ‘Oh my. I didn’t think I’d ever stand up here and be stunned. I didn’t think MasterChef would take out this category. 

‘Eleven years of cooking on television… I can only say what a bunch of committed and passionate people are behind this.’

Despite the loss, the Married at First Sight cast were out in force on the red carpet. 

‘Married’ pair Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli made an entrance with Martha in a daring two-piece, midriff-bearing dress. 

Cameron Merchant and Jules Robinson were also in attendance, with Jules turning heads in a commanding maroon gown. 

Heidi Latcham went solo in a black, silk gown with a thigh-high split and sparkling silver heels.

Most Popular Panel or Current Affairs Program went to The Project, with the show’s entire cast basking in the glow of their success on stage. 

Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson, Waleed Aly and Peter Helliar all walked up to accept the award, with Carrie speaking for the cast.   

‘Obviously didn’t think we were going to win. We both worn ridiculous outfits!’ Carries joked about herself and Lisa, who both had on large, obstructive gowns. 

She continued: ‘First of all thank you to our viewers. Those who have just started watching us and those who have been there from day one.

‘In a couple of weeks we celebrate ten years of the ‘The Project’ which is a remarkable effort for us in this day and age on TV.

Carried added: ‘I still remember the first episode. It was terrible. Hughesy [Dave Hughes] remarked at the end of it that was his career done. I remember thinking shit if that what is Hughesy saying I have no hope!’

Popular Drama Program went to ABC series Mystery Road taking the honours with lead actor Aaron Pedersen and the cast accepting the statuette.  

The award for Most Popular Entertainment Program went to Gogglebox Australia. 

The cast were unable to attend, instead sending a lively acceptance speech via video. 

The award for Most Outstanding Sports Coverage went to the 2018 FIFA World Cup on SBS.  

Most Popular Comedy Program went to Have You Been Paying Attention, accepted by Tom Gleisner.
