Married At First Sight RECAP: Timothy finally gives up on his marriage to Lucinda as couple call it quits during emotional commitment ceremony

Married At First Sight’s Timothy Smith and Lucinda Light have called time on their relationship.

The tension was palpable as Lucinda laid bare the crux of their struggles during Sunday night’s commitment ceremony.

‘The steel gates went up pretty quickly. I felt pretty uncomfortable and I felt a bit unwelcome, there was a couple of incidents that happened that I felt really disappointed in,’ Lucinda confessed.

Timothy acknowledged his lacklustre effort, saying, ‘I didn’t go into homestay with the best attitude.’

His words echoed the distance growing between them, a chasm further widened by his actions, or lack thereof.

Lucinda’s recount of being left waiting until the early hours while Timothy was out with a friend only served to underscore her feelings of rejection.

Lucinda’s frustration was palpable as she described the lukewarm efforts on Timothy’s part.

‘Tim’s never initiated a date, really, for me,’ she lamented, painting a picture of minimal effort garnished with just a hint of regret, like ‘minimum chips with a drizzling of gravy.’

Despite pouring her heart and soul into the experimental marriage, Lucinda felt her devotion was a solo performance.

In an emotional stand before the experts, Timothy said he found deep emotional exploration ‘uncomfortable’ and ‘overwhelming’.

‘And the more that you dig into it, the more I retreat. And I need that space,’ he confessed, offering a glimpse into his own battle with vulnerability.

Timothy, too, decided to exit the experiment, but not without a glimmer of hope for a friendship beyond the show’s confines.

Married At First Sight continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.
