Married At First Sight star turns reality star hero for Cyclone Jasper flood victims and raises $14,600

A former Married At First Sight groom has stepped into the role of a lifetime – saviour to the flood-ravaged victims of Cyclone Jasper.

Drew Brauer, who appeared on the Channel Nine dating show in 2020, has rallied the public to raise a staggering $14,600 through a GoFundMe campaign.

The devastating floods have left many in the Cairns region isolated, homeless and in dire need of assistance.

Drew, who has become somewhat of a local hero, pleaded for urgent donations on his Instagram page.

‘Cairns and surrounds has just been devastated by record-breaking floods off the wake of Cyclone Jasper! Many are still cut off and in danger, losing their homes and possessions. These people need immediate supplies and the clean up following will be huge!’ he wrote.

The reality star’s initiative is turning tides, with funds being funnelled directly into purchasing non-perishable supplies.

After sharing the GoFundMe page, Drew’s followers were quick to praise the musician for helping out.

‘Heartbreaking!! You are doing such a good thing,’ one follower wrote.

Massive rainfall caused by ex-tropical Cyclone Jasper, which was classified as a category two system when it made landfall north of Port Douglas on December 13, has triggered major widespread floods across north Queensland.
