Married At First Sight’s Hayley Vernon has alleged that a groom called her a ‘tranny’ during a heated argument at one of the dinner parties.

The 32-year-old finance broker told The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Friday that she suspected a co-star – who cannot be named for legal reasons – had started the false rumour she was born a man after he’d used the transphobic slur on camera.

‘Tranny’ is a deeply offensive term for a transgender person and even considered hate speech by some organisations, including Facebook.

Shocking claims: Married At First Sight’s Hayley Vernon has alleged that a groom called her a ‘tranny’ during a heated argument at one of the dinner parties

She claimed: ‘I don’t know if it’s actually going to be played on air, but [the groom] actually said to me at one of the dinner parties, “Oh, that’s okay because I’ve called you a tranny.”

‘I’ve never been called a tranny in my whole life. Who says that? Being transgender is not something that people should make a mockery of [and] it’s not something that should be looked at negatively. It’s not a life decision… it should be respected.’

The groom’s supposed use of the term ‘tranny’ made Hayley suspicious that he might have also leaked the false rumour to the press.

Fortunately, she didn’t let the alleged incident upset her.

‘People that point fingers and put names on you and labels, it says more about their insecurities than it does about yours,’ she said.

‘I wish I could pull my pants down and lift my top up [to prove it] but I’m standing in an airport!’ she said.

‘You know what, why is a strong woman with muscles and someone that does bodybuilding trans?’

She added that the rumours people spread say more about them than the people they are discussing.

‘What Sally says about Tina, says more about Sally than it does about Tina,’ she said.
