Married At First Sight’s Shannon Adams admits he said cruel comments to Caitlin ‘just to hurt her’

Married At First Sight’s Shannon Adams has revealed the selfish reason why he made cruel comments to his wife Caitlin McConville during Sunday night’s episode.

The personal trainer, 30, told Caitlin that she ‘isn’t good looking in his eyes’ during an Intimacy Task on Tuesday.

During the commitment ceremony, relationship expert John Aiken asked Shannon: ‘Why did you feel the need to say all those things to Caitlin?’

‘I don’t really have an answer for you… I said them just to hurt her. I’m really sorry I’ve done this. I’m gutted,’ he responded.

‘I’m really sorry but I want to stay,’ Shannon added before revealing his decision to stay in the experiment.

John then asked: ‘Shannon you’re not talking a lot of sense. Why would you want to stay after the cruel treatment?’

‘I don’t want to give up,’ Shannon said.

‘You’ve been 100 per cent focused on giving up this week. It’s been obvious every chance you get you’ve been trying to push her away and hurt her. Why should we believe you now that you’re going to change?’ John questioned.

Shannon explained: ‘I need to listen to her and take into account what she’s saying. I want to actually get a long just the one more week so we can end it being friends.’

‘I’d love to give her a hug right not but I’d have to take baby steps and I don’t really think she’d want that because I’m a monster.’

Tuesday night’s episode saw Shannon cruelly tell Caitlin that she ‘isn’t good looking in his eyes’.

After the Eye Gazing task, Caitlin felt that Shannon had ‘done a 180′ and was being ’emotionally distant’ so she decided to confront him about it.

When she asked Shannon what’s changed he said: ‘You are a good looking girl but not in my eyes.

‘I thought you were going to come down that aisle and completely blow me away.’

‘I don’t really have an answer for you… I said them just to hurt her. I’m really sorry I’ve done this. I’m gutted,’ he responded

He then said that if Caitlin wooed him over, that he would’ve just cut things off with his ex in the first place.

In the moment, Caitlin was too ‘gobsmacked’ to react but after processing it all, she broke down in tears.

‘I feel sick,’ she cried to cameras.

‘That whole speech was about how I wasn’t good enough. I feel like I was getting torn to shreds.’

He later said: ‘I’d love to give her a hug right not but I’d have to take baby steps but I don’t really think she’d want that because I’m a monster’
