Married At First Sight’s Tayla Winter slams Channel Nine as she claims ‘unfavourable edit’

Tayla Winter has come out swinging at Channel Nine, claiming that during her time on Married At First Sight she was misrepresented and trapped in her hotel.

The TV bride, who appeared on the 2023 season, told The Daily Telegraph she didn’t recognise herself on the show due to the way she was edited.

‘You prepare yourself for an unfavourable edit, however you still think you’re somewhat in control of how you’re portrayed,’ she said.

‘When context is removed, your audio is cut and pasted to create conversations,’ Tayla went on.

‘Your facial expressions and your reactions are something completely different to what actually happened’.

Tayla also claims she was not allowed to leave Sydney’s Sky Suites during portions of the filming schedule.

‘For the first three days in Sky Suites, I was told I wasn’t allowed to leave the apartment. I felt like I was going crazy,’ she said.

The 27-year-old claims she called her mother to tell her she was locked down in the hotel due to the ‘controlled’ filming schedule.

‘She said, “Tayla you can leave, they can’t physically hold you there,”’ she explained.

Among her allegations, the reality star says that producers asked her ‘make certain facial expressions’ that were then edited out of context.

She also alleges that contestants were not protected from online bullying and harassment and was left ‘gagged’ as the network took control of the contestants’ social media accounts.

A Nine spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph that psychological support was on offer for all contestants.

‘Nine also have an additional service for participants should they like or need further individual and confidential psychological support,’ they said.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Channel Nine for further comment.

In April, Tayla went rogue and allowed cameras into her Sydney hotel to film her at her most vulnerable just hours ahead of the series finale.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Australia, the Hobart-based nurse opened up about her heartbreaking experience on the show, being isolated by her co-stars and the truth about the sexting scandal with Cam Woods.

Sitting on her hotel bed makeup free, Tayla broke down as she revealed her anguish.

‘I’m icing my face because I’m so swollen from crying all night,’ she said through tears.

‘This show, this experiment… I can’t do it. It’s cruel. My mind just doesn’t feel like it’s okay after it.

‘I’m not an emotional person. I don’t break down. What they’ve done is unreal. I don’t how they can…’

Visibly distressed and fighting off a panic attack, Tayla confided, ‘I just don’t know what the storyline is that they’re going for… and if everyone is gonna come for me about this stupid thing [alleged scandal with Cam].’

She emphasised her strong moral compass and honesty throughout the show, even when it led to backlash.

The star revealed that some participants would act differently on and off-camera, which left her feeling confused and betrayed.

Tayla said the hardest struggle on MAFS was the manipulation and twisting of her words, leaving her feeling unable to trust anyone.

‘That constant feeling of not knowing if I can trust anyone or say anything because it’s going to get manipulated. And that’s what happened to me a lot,’ she explained.

‘It was like completely taken out of context or like rumours would start from absolutely nothing. And it was hard because I just felt like I couldn’t even project what I wanted to say half the time.’

Tayla acknowledges the long-distance challenges between her and Cam, but remains hopeful for their future
