Married man accused of raping a Taiwanese immigrant during a JOB INTERVIEW

A married man has been accused of raping a woman during a job interview – after asking her ‘what can you do to convince me to hire you?’

Ruel Lizardo Baradas, 34, is on trial in the Northern Territory Supreme Court after he pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

The court heard a woman, 29, was interviewed for a housekeeping job at the Mantra Pandanas hotel in Darwin in October, the NT News reported.

Originally from Taiwan, she had been in Australia for four days before the interview.

A man has been accused of raping a woman during a job interview – after asking her ‘what can you do to convince me to hire you?

Mr Baradas allegedly repeatedly asked the woman ‘what can you do to convince me to hire you?’

The woman was then allegedly raped twice in the hotel suite’s bedroom.

Prosecutor Stephen Geary said Mr Baradas told the woman she was ‘pretty and I like you’.

She was using a phone to communicate with Mr Badaras, translating from Mandarin to English.

Mr Geary said Mr Badaras pointed at three Xs on the woman’s CV and said they ‘meant porn’.

After seeing she had experience as a masseuse, Mr Badaras suggested that he needed a massage from the woman, Mr Geary said.

Mr Badaras then said it was ‘her turn to be massaged’ and the woman ‘reluctantly agreed’, according to Mr Geary.

Mr Badaras then allegedly told her to roll over before taking off her pants and penetrating her twice.

Mr Geary said the woman will give evidence that she did not consent to the act.

Mr Badaras’ lawyer Peter Maley said the Crown needed to prove his client knew the woman did not consent.

‘You mightn’t like him, you might think he’s sleazy, you might think he’s having an affair behind his poor wife’s back, all those things may be true, but that’s not the issue,’ he said.

The trial continues.
