Marvel’s Kevin Feige has been tapped to pursue a ‘new era in Star Wars storytelling’ even though the Rise of Skywalker is expected to hit theaters at the end of the year

Marvel’s Kevin Feige – a self-professed Star Wars fan – has been tapped to team up with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy to pursue a ‘new era in “Star Wars” storytelling.’ 

Lucasfilm’s president tapped Feige to develop a film for the historic franchise, according to the Hollywood Reporter. 

Kennedy  ‘is pursuing a new era in ‘Star Wars’ storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a ‘Star Wars’ film together,’ Walt Disney Studios co-chairman Alan Horn said.

Sources familiar with the news stated that Feige met with Kennedy, co-chairmen Alan Horn and Alan Bergman in the late summer.

‘We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox,’ Horn said in a statement. 

‘With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.’

Many have speculated that Feige is going to take more responsibility within Lucasfilm but others have added that Kennedy will remain in charge.

Feige is said to have reportedly told a major actor that he has a specific role in store for the actor if he is tapped to do a movie.

Not much is known besides that as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to hit theaters on December 20 and is expected to by the final installment in the series launched by George Lucas in 1977. 

Marvel has flourished under Feige’s reign, with Avengers: Endgame becoming the highest grossing film of all time. 

Feige currently has a plethora of Marvel series and movies in the work.    

Kennedy has been president of Lucasfilm since 2012 and she is one of thew few executives at Disney.
