Masked man with knife forces Sydney school to lockdown

A knife-wielding man is on the run after he stormed a girl’s high school, forcing it into lockdown.

Auburn Girls High School security was breached for about an hour on Thursday afternoon when the masked man threatened staff. 

Students and teachers were ordered to get on the ground as the balaclava wearing man stole cash from the school west of Sydney.

One young girl told 7 News ‘everyone was screaming and crying and calling their parents’ during the terrifying ordeal. 

Another student saw the man holding a knife as he had ‘something blue in his hand’. 

The armed robbery took place at about 1.15pm and no one was injured.

One teacher was reportedly treated for shock, according to 9 News. 

NSW Police said the man was described as having a large build, wearing a black hoodie jumper, black shorts and covered his face with a black bandana.

Students told 7 News the masked man drove off in a white car.

A school lockdown is common practice when a school’s security is under threat. 

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
