Masked thug kicks passenger onto tram tracks in Manchester

This is the shocking moment a masked thug kicked a male passenger off a platform and onto tram tracks.

The 23-year-old victim arrived to board a tram near Manchester when a gang followed him onto the platform.

After the attack he was threatened with a metal bar and bottle of wine but managed to escape. A pensioner was then attacked with a similar bar just 0.2 miles away.

Disturbing CCTV footage shows two young women and a man, all believed to be in their late teens, turn up at the Metrolink station in Didsbury Village at 10.44pm.

The male gang member covers his face with a balaclava, before one of the girls is seen walking on the tracks a few minutes later.

When the victim seemingly pleads with her to get back on the platform she moves towards him and puts out her hand – but the male gang leader steps in and kicks him violently onto the tracks.

When he clambered desperately back onto the platform, he was then threatened with a metal bar and a wine bottle, which ended up smashed on the floor, police say.

He eventually managed to escape and get back home safely without any injuries. He was badly shaken afterwards.

The teenagers were caught on camera leaving the station at 10.50pm last Friday, with the blonde gang member carrying a bottle of wine.

About 10 minutes later a pensioner suffered a heart attack after being battered with a metal bar 0.2 miles away.

The 66-year-old victim of the second incident was beaten as he walked home along Beaver Road in Didsbury, Manchester.

He was taken to hospital with head injuries but suffered a heart attack as a direct result of the assault. He is now recovering at home.

Police want to speak to the trio in the footage in connection with both incidents.

The young man in the gang was white and described as having a slim build, and with wavy dark hair.

He was wearing a grey hooded puffer jacket and dark bottoms and his face was covered.

The women were both white, again thought to be in their late teens, both around 5ft 5in and of slim build.

One had very long blonde hair and was wearing dark clothing and a dark baseball cap.

The other had dark hair tied back in a dark bun and was wearing a bright red jacket and dark bottoms.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the attack or recognises the suspects to come forward.

Detective Constable Phil Whiting of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: ‘Around the time of both incidents, there weren’t a lot of people around however, I’m sure that by looking at what the people in the footage were wearing, someone will remember them being together.

‘I appreciate the man has his face covered but it may be you recognise the way he walks or the clothes that he is wearing.

‘We need to speak to these people as a matter of urgency so I want people to really study the footage; their faces, the way they are holding themselves and how they are acting.

‘You may have seen them holding bottles of wine or a metal bar. If you know who they are or saw them around the time of either incident, please call us.’
