Mason Cartwright shows off gruesome torn lip after losing to Darren Tetley

Mason Cartwright has shown off the horrific lip injury he suffered in his WBO European welterweight defeat by Darren Tetley on Saturday night.

The fight was waved off in the ninth round with blood pouring down Cartwright’s face after he was left with a gruesome looking gash on his upper lip.

And Cartwright took to Twitter to show off the extent of his injury, poking his tongue through the deep cup in his lip, as he paid a midnight trip to hospital.

Clearly frustrated that he wasn’t allowed to finish the fight, he wrote: ‘If it was up to me I would have faught (sic) the 10th round all day, show my boxing ability I’ll be back.’

Cartwright was left furious when the bout was called off after dominating the early exchanges at Elland Road.

Tetley scored a knockdown in the seventh but it was not until two rounds later that the fight came to a premature end on the doctor’s advice.

The bout was fought on the undercard of Lee Selby’s world title defence against Josh Warrington.

It was Warrington who claimed the prize in the big fight in front of his home crowd to become the new IBF world featherweight champion after a split decision victory.

Also on the night Nicola Adams claimed a sensational first round knockout over Soledad del Valle Frias in front of her home crowd.
